Mike Sharples ARPS MPAGB AFIAP of Smethwick Photographic Society gave a print talk to members of the Desborough and Rothwell Photographic Society on Friday 6th April. He called the talk “A Few Happy Snaps”, which did not do justice to the photographs he presented to his audience. Far from being “snaps” his prints were of top quality, with carefully considered composition and post-processing to achieve the image he wanted. He covered a very wide range of subjects, from landscapes in Scotland, Ireland, France, Wales, USA and more, to portraits including goths, steam punks, zombies, street artists, re-enactors in living museums and participants in “Tough Mudders” events. He had a series of photographs taken on a visit to India, and even included a “pay and display” kingfisher. Throughout the presentation Mike explained some of the techniques he used at the taking stage or in the post-processing and printing, hopefully inspiring Society members to try something new in their photography. Chairman John Spowart thanked Mike for an entertaining and informative evening of excellent photography.
